The last stage of my first Asia trip (Bangkok to Singapore) was that city-state with the interesting cultural mix of Chinese, Malay, Indian, European and various other nationals. Somehow Western but definitely Asian, strict rules, dictator (in the past) but open for tourists, business and all kinds of ventures. Fascinating!

In the beginning of 2015 I had 2 jobs for some months. It was for a limited time only and I managed the stress quite well but of course I wanted a reward at the end of it. Since I had over a week of overtime from another project the year before, I didn’t even need to calculate leave for me. Only my husband with few leave days needed to be considered but at least his boss never lets him not take leave, so we are still very flexible.

In 2011, Easter and ANZAC day fell together and made a long weekend. Perfect time to take 10 days off. Originally it was supposed to be a very short Korea part and a longer part in Japan. But then the catastrophe in Fukushima happened a month before our flight. Our stay was now mainly in Korea but since we couldn’t change our flights, we still had to go to Tokyo to fly back.

Laos

My first trip on my own to Asia involved Hong Kong, Macau, Kunming (China) and Laos. From there I continued my trip to Cambodia and Vietnam. Originally I had booked a tour from Hong Kong via Kunming to Hanoi. The tour got cancelled but my flight was uncanceable, unless you wanted to loose the money. Lying in my room and planning my trip, I saw that Laos wasn’t so far from Kunming and Hanoi. Eventually I added Cambodia and South Vietnam to my 3 week trip. I only planned the first nights and the last because I wasn’t sure if I’m going to make it all the way. I did but this is about Laos.
